Day 27 Various backgrounds

The current class I’m taking includes students from seven countries: Vietnam, Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Chile, and Japan. 
This allows me to learn about differences in accent, intonation, culture, and thought.
Today, I talked with my classmates from some of these countries about how to say "hello" in each of their languages:

  • Korean: Annyeonghaseyo
  • Chinese: Ni hao
  • Spanish: Hola
  • Japanese: Konnichiwa

Learning how to greet others in their native languages may seem small, but I believe that this simple action shows respect for each country.

I hope to be able to introduce myself in each country’s language by the time this class ends. Additionally, I want to share aspects of Japanese culture and its positive attributes with people from various backgrounds.

I also want to share the challenges my country faces and hear how others think about them.

I'm not just studying the English language; I also want to broaden my knowledge and perspectives. This language school experience is truly meaningful for me.

 I listed car-related vocabulary that I haven't clearly explained so far. A  High Mount Stop Lamp is positioned at the top of the tailgate. It lights up when the car is braking, making the vehicle more visible to drivers behind. Tailgate Gas Struts help keep the tailgate open. They contain gas inside a cylinder, which controls the movement. When closing the tailgate, the struts compress, and the gas inside slows it down. Power Steering makes it easier for drivers to turn the steering wheel, allowing for smoother and more effortless steering. A  Seat Belt Buckle secures the seat belt by locking it in place, ensuring passenger safety. A Shift Knob is the handle on the gear stick, which drivers hold when changing gears in both manual and automatic cars. Day 185 My Emotional State

I took the entire day to rest because I have been feeling extremely fatigued recently. To better understand my emotional state since arriving in New Zealand, I created a line graph to analyze my feelings. I rated my mood on a scale of one to ten three times each month. As shown below, the first peak occurred in mid-September, when I met a dependable friend at language school. Spending weekends together exploring different places helped ease the stress of adapting to a new environment. However, my mood declined soon after, as I faced challenges obtaining both a job and a working holiday visa. My motivation reached its highest point in mid-November when I finally secured a job, ensuring I could extend my stay in New Zealand. Although I’ve since encountered difficulties in areas I had no prior experience in, I’ve gradually adjusted to my new workplace.

I recently listened to some content from the BBC World Service uploaded on YouTube. I wrote down several sentences that include vocabulary new to me. Please note that the sentences below do not reflect my opinions; I have simply listed them to help me remember. First of all, that was a very contentious idea because people said, "how can you possibly compare big countries?" And they got people to take these tests, often against a great deal of local resistance. Singapore, Estonia, Taiwan or those sort of places, which we don't historically think of as being economic rivals. But you're right, kind of a good education is a much broader thing. Day 183 Factors Causing Me Stress

I sometimes struggle with deciding what to do after my working holiday. My working holiday visa is valid until mid-November this year, but at the moment, I’m unsure whether I will stay until it expires. My decision will depend on my work situation and my motivation to achieve my goals. When I started my current job, I set a clear goal for myself, but I haven’t reached the level I hoped for yet. I know I might be pushing myself too hard to be perfect, but I’m finding it difficult to manage both the situation and my feelings. Either way, I’ve decided to go outside today.

Day 202 Youtube Content

I wrote down some sentences I struggled to read aloud smoothly, as I did yesterday. We're not rolling around in the mud anymore. They're being less exposed to that microbiome, which has good bacteria. The other thing which is really interesting too, and not to kind of drill into the niche of it. What kind of reaction does it cause? Keeping with this, like, why are we getting more allergic to stuff? Are allergies getting more severe? Are there more allergies or are we just more aware of it? The weight of the research and evidence does show that due to those factors I outlined earlier, you know, where it's different environments, we're a more cleaner society, there's more sterilisation going on, not only are we reporting more allergies, but unfortunately allergies are getting worse too. Day 170 Dentist in New Zealand

Yesterday, I visited a dentist in New Zealand for the first time because I had felt sharp pain in the tooth just in front of my left molar when I brushed my teeth. Although this symptom was the main reason for going to the dentist, the doctor also found a cavity in my left molar. He explained the current condition of the tooth and decided to prioritize treating my left molar, rather than the first tooth I mentioned. If I had never gone there, it might have been too late. I was lucky. Next time, I will ask him about the main cause of the problems and how to address them, but I think changes in my living environment and meals might have caused more damage than I expected. Anyway, this reminded me that my health is the top priority.

Day 287 Understanding Own Personality

When I was younger, especially during high school and university, I felt that I always had to connect with someone. I understand that I shouldn't blame adults for this, but teachers and older people often forced me to engage in conversations with classmates or club team members. It was actually very difficult for me to communicate with someone for a long time because I didn’t want to make others feel frustrated or uncomfortable. As a result, I became exhausted from repeatedly trying to maintain conversations. Now that I am an adult, I am gradually learning to express my thoughts and prioritize my mental health. Since coming to New Zealand, I have felt this even more strongly. Moving forward, I will continue to embrace this mindset.

Day 148 Buying Medicine

It has been almost five months since I arrived in New Zealand. Some of the medicine I brought from Japan ran out last week, so I had to purchase replacements. I bought two types of medicine: an ice gel for relieving pain and a bottle of eye drops to lubricate my eyes. The latter is particularly important because I spend a lot of time looking at a computer screen, both at work and while studying at home. Although I have experience working in a pharmaceutical company, my knowledge is limited to clinical trials. Therefore, I decided to consult a pharmacy assistant before making my purchase. This experience gave me a valuable opportunity to ask questions and interact in English. I believe that everything I encounter in my daily life here is both meaningful and enriching.
