Day 189 Topic Writing: Universal Basic Income
Should governments provide a fixed income for all citizens, regardless of employment status?
I partially agree with the idea of providing a fixed income for all citizens, as I see both advantages and drawbacks. It is true that such a system could help people maintain their daily lives. However, it would also impose an additional financial burden on society.
For instance, Japan’s working population has been gradually decreasing, making it increasingly difficult for many people to secure their livelihoods. In other words, we are already facing economic challenges in sustaining current government programs, such as public health insurance. If the cost of implementing a universal basic income system exceeds the additional taxes or financial burdens imposed on citizens, then the system would not be justifiable. Therefore, I cannot fully support this idea at the moment.
