Day 5 I became shy....

Today, I studied the use of "since" in the morning class. A sentence that was discussed is as follows:   "It is ten years since I touched a law book." One student asked, "Why can't I say, 'It has been ten years...?'" Another student said, "Touching a law book indicates a specific point in the past. When I use 'has been,' the action should be continuous from the past." The teacher agreed with this explanation. Additionally, I deepened my understanding of grammer.   While I spent meaningful time, I am reflecting on my hesitation to assert myself during the class. When I am exhausted and lacking energy, I tend to become passive.   I tell me again, "Let's try anyway.", "Don't be shy."   Thank you.

Day 4 The frustration of not being able to speak

The full-time class started today. I felt frustrated because I couldn't express in English what I wanted to say. During discussion time, I came up with opening phrases such as "I think" and "I would like to confirm," but I couldn't add information, questions, or answers to those phrases. To improve this situation, I think shadowing a lot of sentences often used in discussions or meetings is effective. I will try continuously. Thank you.

Day 3 The first day of the language school

Image
I enrolled in the language school today. The counselors were very kind, and their guidance was clear. I also made some friends there and communicated with them actively. I joined a class immediately and studied words related to furniture used in daily life. The class is meaningful and helpful for improving my speaking and listening skills in English. I will also try to challenge myself to speak English without shyness. Thank you for reading! The scene is near my language school.

Day 2 Sightseeing in Auckland

Image
I visited Auckland CBD to ensure I wouldn't get lost on my way to the language school where I start studying tomorrow. I saw many parks there, even though it is the central business area. I was surprised because, in Japan, I can only see a few small parks in the central areas. In Auckland, not only are there many parks, but they are also all beautiful because they are always clean and the bushes are neatly mowed. Also, people spend time freely near the waterfront or shopping areas. Like them, I could relax by enjoying nature in the parks and visiting souvenir shops, food courts, and more.   I look forward to enrolling in the language school and communicating with people of various customs and religions. Thank you for reading this blog!

Day 1 Homestay

I have come to New Zealand to attend an English language school and for a working holiday. Today is my first day! I was very nervous yesterday because this decision means leaving my wife alone in Japan. However, my wife encouraged me, and I was able to refocus on the initial purpose of the working holiday. I am deeply grateful and can not express my thanks enough. Today, I had lunch and went shopping with my host mother. I felt frustrated because I couldn't express what I wanted to say in English. I am telling myself, "Let's try anyway." I will keep doing my best!
